Disclosed herein are expandable introducer sheaths and methods of making and using them. The sheath allows the temporary expansion of a portion of the sheath to conform to passage of a delivery system for an implant and then return to an unexpanded state after passage of the device to the patient's vasculature. The sheath has a collapsible inner member with a flap structure cut away at its distal tip to help expand the sheath lumen to a creased diameter, and an elastomer that reduces pushing and pulling forces therethrough.
