A syringe (100) includes a plunger (102) having a plunger tube (150) with proximal and distal ends, a center tube (152) with a center passage that extends within the plunger tube (150), and a balloon (154) disposed over the center tube (152) and sealingly fixed to at least one of the center tube (152) and the plunger tube (150). The syringe (100) also includes a barrel (101) having a barrel tube (110) having proximal and distal ends and an interior configured to accept a portion of the plunger (102), a tip (112) fixedly coupled to the proximal end of the barrel tube (110), a post (114) fixedly attached to the tip (112) and extending within the barrel tube (110) toward the distal end, the tip (112) configured to partially extend into the center passage of the plunger (102), and a gas passage (116) extending from a proximal end of the tip to the distal end of the post (114).
