A container and system for holding liquid to be heated or cooled is described. The container (1000) defines an inner region (1005) inside which liquid is adapted to be held and includes one or more walls (25) for facilitating heating or cooling of the liquid therethrough. The one or more walls are adapted for invagination by a temperature control probe (130) such that the temperature control probe extends into the container without directly contacting contents of the inner region of the container. The container is particularly suitable for heating breast milk or formula as well as blood, plasma or serum. A controller brings the liquid to temperature quickly, using only the energy required to raise the liquid to final desired temperature of the liquid calculated using the specific heat capacity of the liquid and/or a mass of the liquid in the container and/or a maximum permissible liquid temperature.
