A recovery tool 10 comprising: a tubular main body 12 having a distal end forming an open-ended tip region 16; an aperture 22 extending through a wall of the main body in the tip region; a length of wire 26 having a pair of free ends and being bent so as to form a loop 24; and an actuator 34, wherein the loop 24 extends through the aperture 22 and into the tip 16 with its free ends extending axially along the exterior of the main body 12 for a distance, the free ends of the wire 26 being operatively connected to the actuator 34, and wherein the actuator 34 is screw-threadedly connected to the main body 12, such that, in use: relative rotation of the actuator and the main body tensions the wire so as to reduce the size of the loop 24.
