PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To introduce a new indwelling catheter credibly into an objective body cavity when exchanging an indwelling catheter.SOLUTION: A shank section 13 of a guide catheter 11 is formed so that it expands in the diametral direction. The guide catheter 11 is inserted into an existing indwelling catheter indwelt in the objective body cavity until a body holding section 15 projects from the indwelling catheter. By injecting a liquid from an expanding liquid injection valve 17, the body holding section 15 is expanded by the liquid passing through a lumen 131, and the guide catheter 11 is held within the body cavity. A new indwelling catheter is then inserted into the guide catheter 11 until the new indwelling catheter projects from the guide catheter.
