A method for producing a carboxylic acid and an ammonium salt, comprising: providing an aqueous solution containing at least one salt of a carboxylic acid and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal; treating at least one salt of a carboxylic acid and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal inorganic acid, converting at least a portion of at least one salt of a carboxylic acid and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal into its carboxylic acid form and obtaining a water-soluble alkali salt metal or alkaline earth metal; separation of a carboxylic acid from a water soluble alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt; and treating a water soluble alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt with ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, ammonium carbonate or ammonium bicarbonate to obtain an ammonium salt and a precipitate containing an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the alkali metal is at least one metal selected from the group consisting of lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, cesium and France. The method according to claim 1, where the alkaline earth metal is at least one metal selected from the group consisting of beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, barium and radium. The method of claim 1, wherein the provided aqueous solution comprises a magnesium salt of a carboxylic acid. The method of claim 1, wherein the carboxylic acid is dicarboxylic acid or tricarboxylic acid.
