A photoacoustic apparatus includes a probe configured to receive an acoustic wave generated from an object in response to irradiation with light and to convert the received acoustic wave into a time-series electric signal； a moving mechanism configured to move the probe with respect to the object； a controller configured to perform the irradiation of the object with light； a determination unit configured to determine whether or not a peak of a waveform of the time-series electric signal is present within a predetermined time range from a timing at which the irradiation with light has been performed, and a processing unit configured to generate a photoacoustic image based on the time-series electric signal.
