PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system surely preventing illumination light from illuminating a subject in an abnormal state when something abnormal occurs in the illumination means even if a control section has some trouble when illuminating by the illumination means.
SOLUTION: This endoscope system 1 is provided with: an insertion section 2 to be inserted inside a subject an observation means 5 provided at the distal end side of the insertion section 2 and observing the inside of the subject the illumination means 10 having a light source section 11 for emitting excitation light, and a fluorescent member 14 for emitting the illumination light by the excitation light a detection means 20 for detecting the state of the illumination means 10 and a plurality of control sections 6 and 7 determining the normality/abnormality of the illumination means 10 based on the detection result by the detection means 20 and, when being determined abnormal, controlling to stop the illumination of the illumination light respectively.
