A novel compound having a two arm cyclic structure is described. These novel compounds absorb both ultraviolet (UV)-A and UV-B radiation and are formulated with pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, so that when applied to the subjects skin A topical composition having a photoprotective action is produced.
