A telescopic intraocular lens system comprising: an anterior light-converging intraocular lens 16； and a posterior light-diverging intraocular lens 17； wherein the posterior lens is separate to the anterior lens； and wherein at least one of the surfaces of the anterior lens or surfaces of the posterior lens is a modified surface which includes a surface aberration which increases the depth of focus of the lens, optimises image quality and may also provide for a magnified image over a range of retinal eccentricities. The anterior lens may have a spherical anterior surface and an aspherical posterior surface； the posterior lens may have an aspherical anterior surface and a spherical posterior surface. The surface aberration may be added by aspherizing the spherical surface. The aspherical surfaces may be rotationally symmetric polynomials with a defined surface sag. The anterior lens may comprise an opaque rim (also claimed).
