Disclosed is a stable perfluorcarbon nanoemulsion having an endocytosis enhancing surface, said nanoemulsion having a continuous perfluorcarbon phase and a buffered discontinuous aqueous phase and comprising (a) a perfluorcarbon component comprising at least one least one perfluorcarbon compound (b) an emulsifying component and (c) transferrin or a derivative thereof as an endocytosis enhancing component that induces cellular uptake of the nanoemulsion via endocytosis. Also disclosed is a gene-transfer agent or a pharmaceutical composition comprising the nanoemulsion a method of preparing the nanoemulsion and the use of a nanoemulsion for preparing a medicament for treating pharmaceutics and genetic material to a patient.
