Novel base addition salts of nitroxoline with improved solubility under physiological conditions and increased urine secretion are described. Also described are pharmaceutical compositions and methods of treatment using the pharmaceutical compositions. The present invention relates to novel base addition salts of nitroxoline that have improved solubility and stability in aqueous solutions compared to nitroxoline or other nitroxoline salts.
