The present invention relates to a composition comprising &beta；-sitosterol isolated from Dendropanax morbifera Lev. as an active ingredient for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss. Further, the present invention provides a method for preparing &beta；-sitosterol, the method including: a first step of preparing a Dendropanax morbifera Lev. extract from Dendropanax morbifera Lev. by adding water including purified water, low-grade alcohol having C1 to C4, hexane or a mixed solution thereof； a second step of preparing a Dendropanax morbifera Lev. fractionate by performing systemic fractionation on the Dendropanax morbifera Lev. extract prepared in the first step； and a third step of preparing &beta；-sitosterol by isolating and purifying the Dendropanax morbifera Lev. fractionate prepared in the second step through chromatography. Since the composition for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss has effects on hair growth promotion and hair loss prevention, the composition can be useful as a hair loss preventing agent and a hair growth promoting agent for preventing hair loss and treating baldness and alopecia areata.본 발명은 황칠나무로부터 분리한 베타-시토스테롤(β-sitosterol)을 유효성분으로 포함하는 발모촉진 및 탈모방지용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 또한 본 발명은 황칠나무로부터 정제수를 포함한 물, C1 내지 C4의 저급 알콜, 헥산 또는 이들의 혼합용매를 가하여 황칠나무 추출물을 제조하는 1단계； 상기 1단계에서 제조된 황칠나무 추출물에 계통분획을 실시하여 황칠나무 분획물을 제조하는 2단계； 및 상기 2단계에 제조된 황칠나무 분획물을 크로마토그래피로 분리, 정제하여 베타-시토스테롤을 제조하는 3단계로 이루어지는 베타-시토스테롤의 제조방법에 제공한다. 상기 발모촉진 및 탈모방지용 조성물은 발모촉진, 탈모방지 효과를 가지므로, 대머리 질환, 원형탈모의 치료와 탈모방지를 위한 탈모방지제 및 발모촉진제로 유용하게 이용될 수 있다.
