An apparatus for efficient delivery of light to a target site in a human bodywherein theapparatus includes a light source and at least one stent having a lumendefined longitudinallytherethrough. The light source is disposed longitudinally within the lumen ofthe stent and/oron a surface of the stent. Also, a method for efficient delivery ofphototherapy to the brain inthe human body. A hole is drilled in the skull without penetrating dura matterin the brain.Each drilled hole is fitted with a transparent light conductor so that eachlight conductor fullypenetrates the skull. Light emitted from a light source disposed on a firstside exteriorly ofthe skull is transmitted through to an opposite side interiorly of the skullto a target site withinthe brain via the transparent light conductor.
