Cysteine and/or cysteine derivs. can be used in the control of biological slimes in liquid conveying systems of technical plants. Pref. deriv. is N-acetyl-, S-acetyl- or unsubstd. l.cysteine; the liquid in the liquid conveying systems is essentially water. The cysteine (derivs.)ma are pref. used in concns. of 500-5000 (esp. 750-1000) ppm. used to control slime forming microorganisms and bioslimes, esp. those produced by bacteria, e.g. in pipe lines, water treatment plants, pipes for cooling liquids, etc. Theya minhibit the colonising of surfaces, including those which are not continuously below the level of the liq.
