The present invention relates to methods of treating a condition involving excessive adipogenesis. This method relates to selecting a subject having a condition involving excessive adipogenesis and administering to the selected subject a composition comprising a Thyl protein or polypeptide fragment thereof, or an agent that enhances Thyl expression, under conditions effective to treat the condition. The present invention also relates to isolated nucleic acid molecules encoding a Thyl protein or the fragment thereof and pharmaceutical formulations including such a protein or fragment thereof or an agent that enhances Thyl expression and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The present invention also relates to methods of inhibiting adipogenesis and/or decreasing adipocyte size, as well as methods of screening a candidate compound for its ability to influence adipogenesis.La présente invention concerne des méthodes de traitement d'un état impliquant une adipogenèse excessive. Cette méthode concerne la sélection d'un sujet ayant un état impliquant l'adipogenèse excessive et l'administration au sujet sélectionné d'une composition comprenant une protéine Thy1 ou d'un fragment polypeptidique de celle-ci, ou d'un agent qui active l'expression de Thy1, dans des conditions efficaces pour traiter l'état. La présente invention concerne également des molécules d'acide nucléique isolées codant par une protéine Thy1 ou le fragment de celle-ci, et des formulations pharmaceutiques comprenant une telle protéine ou un tel fragment associé ou un agent qui augmente l'expression de Thy1 et un support pharmaceutiquement acceptable.
