The present invention provides an injection device that informs the user as to the progress of the injection device from a locked state to a state in which injection may be carried out, thereby avoiding damage to the injection mechanism. Specifically, the invention provides an injection device (110) comprises an actuator (710) adapted when actuated to cause commencement of an injection sequence; a locking mechanism adapted to be moved between a locked position in which the locking mechanism prevents the actuator from being actuated, and an unlocked position in which the actuator can be actuated to cause commencement of the injection sequence. An indicator (570) is configured to provide a visual indication of whether the locking mechanism is in its locked position or in its unlocked position.
