A seed firmer and bracket combination for a planter row unit (200) comprises a seed firmer (3000) and a bracket (4000). The bracket (4000) is configured to be mounted to a shank (254) of the row unit (200) and support the seed firmer (3000) in a position rearward of a seed tube or seed conveyor of the row unit (200). The bracket (4000) comprising a first opening (4080), a wall (4015) and a rearward portion. The seed firmer (3000) comprises a body (3090), a flexible portion (3050) for resiliently biasing the body (3090) into a trench (38), and an upper portion (3070). The upper portion (3070) is received in the first opening (4080) when installed. The seed firmer (3000) further comprises a hook (3015), and a flexible mounting portion (3060) having an angled portion (3065) at a lower end thereof and a rearward-facing retention tab (3020). When installed the hook (3015) engages the wall (4015) to prevent the seed firmer (3000) from moving upward, forward or rearward relative to the bracket (4000), and the retention tab (3020) is biased into engagement with a second opening (4020) in the rearward portion of the bracket (4000) by the flexible mounting portion (3060) thereby preventing the seed firmer (3000) from sliding downward relative to the bracket (4000).
