The present invention provides a process for illuminating a garment (10) worn by an individual, which process comprises the following steps:(i) providing a garment (10) having an illumination system (20) comprising(a) an optical fibre member (210) holding fibre ends (212) of multiple optical fibres (211) attached to the garment (10)；(b) a wearable control unit (220) comprising at least one light source (221) releasably attached to the optical fibre member (210), the control unit (220) further comprising a data processor (222), and a wearable power source (223)；(ii) storing sensor data representing context information of the garment (10)；(iii) processing the sensor data so as to generate processed sensor data；(iv) mapping the processed sensor data to an individual state by using sensor data mapping rules；(v) mapping the individual state to a light output state by using individual state mapping rules；(vi) controlling the at least one light source depending on the light output state.
