The method comprising the steps of providing a medical electrical lead (6) including a conductive lead body (42), an expandable distal portion (50) and at least one electrode (52) adapted to deliver an electrical pulse transvascularly to the vagus nerve (34) located on the distal portion (50) collapsing the distal portion (50) advancing the distal portion (50) of the lead (6) to the stimulation site located within the internal jugular vein adjacent the vagus nerve (34) allowing the distal portion (50) to expand and stimulating the vagus nerve (34).
