PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safe device and method for treating heart valve malfunction including mitral regurgitation.SOLUTION: The device comprises an elongated chord movably disposed within an introducer sheath, and an anchor secured to a distal end of the chord. The introducer sheath and the chord are introduced into the heart and penetrate and pass through the anterior mitral valve leaflet or preferably through the mitral valve orifice. The introducer sheath and the chord are then extended transversely across the heart chamber and the distal end of the chord is anchored to a portion of the heart wall opposing the anterior mitral valve leaflet. The introducer sheath is withdrawn back along the anchored chord through the anterior mitral valve leaflet, and the proximal end of the chord is secured to the anterior mitral valve leaflet.
