The present invention provides a device and method for use in laparoscopic surgery, in particular hand assisted laparoscopic surgery, the device comprising a flexible body having a sidewall of double wall construction which defines an inflatable cavity enabling the body to be inflated from a collapsed state into an expanded state, in order to distend a surgical cavity to provide an enclosure within which a surgical procedure may be performed, the body having an open end to allow communication between the enclosure defined by the body when in the expanded state and tissue/organs surrounding the body, in particular directly adjacent, in use, the open end of the body.Linvention concerne un dispositif et un procédé destinés à être utilisés dans la chirurgie laparoscopique, en particulier la chirurgie laparoscopique assistée manuellement. Ledit dispositif comprend un corps flexible présentant une paroi latérale dune construction double paroi, laquelle définit une cavité gonflable permettant au corps de gonfler et de passer dun état affaissé à une état expansé, ceci permettant de détendre une cavité chirurgicale, de manière à créer une enveloppe à lintérieur de laquelle une procédure chirurgicale peut être effectuée. Le corps présente une extrémité ouverte permettant la communication entre lenveloppe définie dans le corps, en état expansé, et les tissus/organes entourant le corps, en particulier les tissus/organes adjacents, lors de lutilisation à lextrémité ouverte du corps.
