Disclosed is a benzothiophen derivatives represented by general formula (I) or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof, which are activators of peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR), wherein the variables are as defined in the specification. These benzothiophen derivatives can be used for treatment and/or prophylaxis of a disease mediated by peroxisome proliferator activated receptor, such as dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, obesity including internal organs fat type, atherosclerosis or disease associated therewith, diabetes etc.
