A surgical laser system comprises a user interface that allows the user to select a treatment based on a desired tissue response such as cold ablation through to coagulation. The laser system comprises circuitry coupled to the user interface and the laser, such that the circuitry can adjust the laser treatment parameters based on the tissue response identified by the user. The laser treatment parameters adjusted with the circuitry can include one or more of the pulse duration or exposure duration with continuous wave output, the output beam intensity, the intensity of the pumping of the gain medium, or pulsing of the gain medium, for example. The user can view an image of the tissue site with an endoscope comprising viewing optics and the tissue treatment waveguide, and the user can select the desired tissue response based on the endoscopic images.
