Disclosed is a surgical needle safety shield for retaining surgical needles.The safety shield havinga housing that can be split to allow for user-initiated placement and removalof the surgical needletherefrom. The safety shield also having a needle access port within thehousing to allow for aportion of the surgical needle to be grasped to facilitate removal andinsertion of the surgical needlein the housing. Also disclosed is a container for storing one or more surgicalneedle safety shieldsand a kit made up of such a container and one or more surgical needle safetyshields.
