Polyphosphoric acid, metaphosphoric acid for the purpose of providing a composition for preventing or treating sepsis and various symptoms associated therewith (septic shock, disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome, adult respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction, etc.) Alternatively, a composition for preventing or treating sepsis containing condensed phosphoric acid such as ultraphosphoric acid or a salt thereof as an active ingredient is provided. Here, the average phosphoric acid polymerization degree of the condensed phosphoric acid is preferably 2 to 1,500 with PO 3 − as a unit. In addition, the composition is administered to a patient in a dosage form such as an injection, an infusion solution, or an oral preparation.敗血症及びそれに伴われる諸症状（敗血症性ショック、播種性血管内凝固症候群、成人呼吸窮迫症候群、多臓器機能障害等）の予防又は治療用組成物を提供することを目的として、ポリリン酸、メタリン酸若しくはウルトラリン酸のような縮合リン酸又はその塩を有効成分として含む敗血症の予防又は治療用組成物を提供する。ここで、縮合リン酸の平均リン酸重合度は、PO3－を単位として2乃至1,500であることが好ましい。また、前記組成物は、注射剤、輸液、経口剤等の剤形で患者に投与される。
