Provided herein are methods of promoting the activity of Nurr1 in a cell comprising contacting the cell with NuIP or an analog or fragment thereof. Also provided are methods of treating or preventing a condition associated with reduced dopaminergic function in a subject, comprising administering to the subject NuIP or an analog or fragment thereof. Methods of inhibiting the activity of Nurr1 in a cell comprising contacting the cell with a NuIP inhibitor are provided.
