Provided, among other things, is a method of treating skin and soft tissue wounds, ulcers, burns, various types of dermatoses, inflammatory conditions of the mucosa, and the like comprising: periodically applying to the wound, inflammatory condition of mucosal tissues, or dermatoses, over a course of day an effective amount of water based formulation (comprising: 0.5 to 5 wt % of an emollient comprising silicone oil, 2 to 10 wt % of fatty acid, humectant(s), emulsifying agent(s), and polymer(s)), wherein the formulation is formulated as a spray, cream, lotion, milk or foam-former.
