PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope insertion aid allowing an endoscope to be smoothly inserted into a body cavity by controlling the air feeding and air intake of a balloon inside the body cavity.
SOLUTION: The endoscope insertion aid includes: a circular balloon to be fitted to the outer peripheral surface at the distal end of the endoscope a helical balloon slidably wound around the outer peripheral surface of the distal end and a control part for controlling the air feeding and air intake to the respective balloons. The helical balloon includes a first portion extending in the axial direction of the distal end, and a second portion extending outward in the radial direction of the distal end. The air pressure to start expansion in the first portion is set higher than in the second portion. The control part controls the air feeding and air intake so that the second portion expands first to abut on the inner wall surface of the body cavity, that the first portion expands next to insert the distal end deep into the body cavity, after that, the circular balloon expands to abut on the inner wall surface of the body cavity, and that the helical balloon is contracted while the abutting state is retained to slide on the outer peripheral surface of the distal end toward the distal end side of the distal end of the endoscope.
