By having a seal that can be opened, the convective blanket can be converted into a combined blanket for both the overlay and underlay. The seal is disposed at a position away from the blanket head area so as to be substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the blanket. The seal may be provided with a weak component line so that it can be easily divided to form an opening for the patient's head. To cover the opposite sides of the patient, the top and main parts of the blanket can be folded close to each other. An elongated opening is provided in the main portion of the blanket to allow the patient's arm to extend through the blanket.
