A device to assist performing medical procedures that references anatomicallandmarksthrough adjustable components to identify and stabilize a procedure site andprovideguidance in performing the procedure. In one embodiment, an airway creationassistdevice (ACAD) can be dimensionally adjusted for different patient sizes andproperlyaligned using anatomical landmarks. The ACAD provides an adjustable templatethatenables accurate identification of the airway creation site, including but notlimited to thecricothyroid membrane. The ACAD uses an insertion guide to guide the obturatorandairway tube safely and consistently into the trachea, with a mechanical stopto preventdamaging the posterior trachea wall. The ACAD improves efficacy of theprocedure, andmakes perforating an incorrect airway creation procedure difficult. In anotherembodiment, a chest decompression assist device (DAD) Is disclosed fordecompressiontreatment of air and/or fluid in the chest.
