The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing xylitol, as an active ingredient, for preventing or treating influenza virus infection. More particularly, the present invention is characterized by further including any one or more selected from the group consisting of a water dialysis layer of ginseng or red-ginseng, a whole extract of ginseng or red-ginseng, ginseng or red-ginseng polysaccharides, and ginseng or red-ginseng saponin. Also, the present invention provides a health food composition for preventing or alleviating influenza virus infection, wherein the health food composition comprises xylitol； and any one or more selected from the group consisting of water dialysis layer of ginseng or red-ginseng, a whole extract of ginseng or red-ginseng, ginseng or red-ginseng polysaccharides, and ginseng or red-ginseng saponin. When a ginseng or red-ginseng fraction is administered in combination with xylitol, an effect of alleviating a symptom is significantly better than effects of cases where the ginseng or red-ginseng extract, the ginseng or red-ginseng polysaccharides, ginseng or red-ginseng saponin, or xylitol is administered alone.
