The present invention provides a universal locking clip (100) for engaging and disengaging a housing (118) of an electrical equipment onto a DIN rail (122). The universal locking clip (100) comprises of a sliding mechanism (102) and a locking mechanism (104). The sliding mechanism (102) comprises of a slider (106) and a slider head (110). The locking mechanism (104) comprises of an engaging means (112) with two legs (114) protruding from it and a clip guide (116). The slider (106) comprises of two ends, a connecting end (106-1) and a free end (106-2). The slider (106) is connected to the locking mechanism (104) by means of a flexible segment (108) provided at the connecting end (106-1). The slider head (110) is provided at the free end (106-2) of said slider (106). The present invention also provides a method for installing and uninstalling said universal locking clip (100) with said DIN rail (122). Reference figure 1
