A method and apparatus for performing surgical stapling in a human body. A surgical stapler includes an operation handle having a barrel extending forward, a distal end of the barrel, a stapling head portion, a stapler main body portion, and a stapling head portion interposed between them. And a stapling device having a hinge connection for enabling pivoting. The stapling head portion has a holder portion configured to hold the surgical staple during positioning and implantation opposite the hinge connection. The proximal end portion of the stapling head portion is at least about the barrel from the stop position parallel to the stapler main body portion to the operation position for substantially embedding the staple in the tissue in the proximal direction toward the operation handle.
