A body support suitable for use on a stretcher comprising two panels wherein a first has a male member 64 extending into a female member 66 on a second. There may be four panels each connected by a plurality of cooperating protrusions and grooves. A connecting bolt may extend through the male members 64 which be integrally formed as part of a plastic panel. The connection may allow for pivoting and the body support may be arranged on a stretcher frame which allows it to be raised and lowered. Also disclosed is a lockable caster wheel with a solenoid control means, a lifting mechanism with cross members which engage linear bearing rails and a powered actuator system for providing pivoting using two actuators with a common axis of rotation.
