A self expanding flexible device with a helical strut member helically wound about an axis of the device. The helical strut has has a number of helical strut elements. The self expanding flexible device also has a number of individual helical elements helically wound about the axis in the same direction as the helical strut member. The helical elements extend between and interconnect points on subsequent windings of the helical strut member. The interconnection is by way of a smooth transition between individual helical elements and the helical strut member. A longitudinal length of the helical elements versus the longitudinal length of the helical strut member is optimized for flow diversion and tissue prolapsed prevention characteristics.
