A method for treating surface of base material, comprising: a diamond-like carbon film (a DLC film) formation step of forming a diamond-like carbon film on a surface of a base material an activation step of disconnecting a carbon to carbon bond of the diamond-like carbon film and generating on a surface of the diamond-like carbon film a reactive region which serves as a polymerization starting point and a polymerization step of polymerizing monomers using the polymerization starting point to graft the monomers to the surface of the diamond-like carbon film.
