PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a vegetated floating island simple in structure with a small number of constituent parts. SOLUTION: The floating island 5 to be set on water areas such as a lake or marsh by vegetating plants 10 or the like thereon is such that a number of continuous ropes 7 or the like about 0.1-5.0 mm thick made from an expanded resin are mutually entangled in irregular loops and unified to form a netty structure 1 of a necessary thickness with hollows inside, thus constituting a vegetation base 3 with buoyancy necessary for making plants or the like float. Thereby, the vegetation base itself serves as the objective floating island functioning as a buoy, omitting a float or the like having been demanded so far and seen odd, matching with the natural environment and resulting in cost reduction with simple structure.
