In a device, a crop is grown in an environment that is at least substantially daylight-free, wherein the crop is exposed in an at least substantially fully conditioned cultivation space (10) to actinic artificial light from a series of artificial light sources (30) present in the cultivation space. During a cultivation cycle, an energy release from the artificial light sources (30) is tuned to an energy absorption of a part of the crop (50) illuminated thereby, such that the crop experiences an at least substantially constant vapor deficit near each of the series of artificial light sources.In een inrichting wordt een gewas in een althans in hoofdzaak daglichtvrije omgeving, geteeld, waarbij het gewas in een althans in hoofdzaak volledig geconditioneerde teeltruimte (10) wordt blootgesteld aan actinisch kunstlicht afkomstig van een reeks in de teeltruimte aanwezige kunstlichtbronnen (30). Gedurende een teeltcyclus wordt een energie-afgifte van de kunstlichtbronnen (30) afgestemd op een energie-opname van een daardoor aangelicht deel van het gewas (50), zodanig dat het gewas nabij ieder van de reeks kunstlichtbronnen een althans nagenoeg constant dampdeficit ondervindt.
