The invention relates to a method for expanding the jawbone crest (1) so that it can receive a final dental implant (4), the expansion of the bone crest (1) being carried out using an expander implant, that is, a biocompatible and osteoconductive part with an expanding purpose. The use of the expander implant (3) to widen the bone crest (1) has an important effect in that said implant is used as a support for the bone, thereby stimulating the consolidation of the fracture of the bone crest (1) and the formation of bone around said implant. For this reason, the bone generated around the expander-implant (3) is of high quality. The invention also relates to the optional correction of the angulation of the alveolus during the widening, so that the final dental implant (4) and the corresponding dental prosthesis remain adequately oriented. The invention further relates to a specific expander-implant design (3).Método de expansión de cresta ósea (1) para poder recibir la instalación de un implante dental final (4), donde la expansión de la cresta ósea (1) se realiza utilizando un implante-expansor, es decir, una pieza biocompatible y osteoconductora, con finalidad expansora. El uso de un implante-expansor (3) para ensanchar la cresta ósea (1) presenta el importante efecto de que dicho implante sirve como soporte al hueso y por lo tanto favorece la consolidación de la fractura de la cresta ósea (1 ) y la formación de hueso alrededor de dicho implante. Por ello, el hueso generado alrededor del implante-expansor (3) es de elevada calidad. La invención contempla además la corrección opcional de la angulación del alveolo durante el ensanchamiento, para que el implante dental final (4) y la prótesis dental correspondiente queden adecuadamente orientados.
