A vacuum chamber socket system having a shell which defines a receiving portion (210) for receiving a residuum (110). The receiving portion (210) is connected via a vacuum transfer port (212), as in an aperture, to a vacuum reservoir chamber (220). A one-way or non-return valve (214) is provided within the vacuum transfer port (212) for allowing air to pass from the receiving portion (210) into the chamber (220), but not from the chamber (220) to the receiving portion (210). The chamber (220) also includes an evacuation port (510) for creating a partial vacuum within both the chamber (220) and the receiving portion (210).
