The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, which comprises a dihydroisocoumarin derivative as an active ingredient. More particularly, the present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, which comprises a dihydroisocoumarin derivative isolated from SF-5974 and SF-5976 and having an anti-inflammatory effect as an active ingredient. With reference to inflammatory responses, the pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating inflammatory diseases, which comprises a dihydroisocoumarin derivative as an active ingredient according to the present invention, effectively inhibits production of nitrogen oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in microglia cells, suppresses expression of inductive nitrogen oxide enzyme (iNOS) and cycloxygenase-2 (COX-2) to inhibit I&kappaB-&alpha phosphorylation and NF-&kappaB activity, and reduces a level of p38 MARK phosphorylation. SF-5974 및 SF-5976에서 분리된 항염증 효과를 갖는 디히드로이소쿠마린 유도체를 유효성분으로 함유하는 염증 질환 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 디히드로이소쿠마린 유도체를 유효성분으로 포함하는 염증 질환 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물은, 염증반응과 관련하여, 미세아교세포에서 산화질소(NO) 및 프로스타글란딘 E2(PGE2)의 생성을 억제하고, 유도성 산화질소 효소(iNOS) 및 시클로옥시게나아제-2(COX-2)의 발현을 억제하여, IκB-α 인산화 및 NF-κB 활성을 억제하고, p38 MARK 인산화 수준을 감소시키는 효과가 있으며, 세포 독성이 없으므로 염증 질환 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
