Novel use of an inhibitor of the renin-angiotensin system or derivative (I) in the manufacture of a medicament for the prevention of stroke in patients exhibiting normal or low blood pressure, diabetes and/ or congestive heart failure (CHF) with no pre-existing CHF. Independent claims are also included for: a method of preventing of stroke in patients exhibiting normal or low blood pressure, diabetes and/ or congestive heart failure (CHF) with no pre-existing CHF; and a formulation for use in the prevention of stroke in patients exhibiting normal or low blood pressure, diabetes and/ or congestive heart failure (CHF) with no pre-existing CHF. ACTIVITY : Cerebroprotective; Cardiant; Antidiabetic. Treating 9,541 patients who are at risk for cardiovascular events due to a history of previous ischemic heart disease, stroke, peripheral arterial disease or individuals with diabetes with ramipril for 6 years resulted in a 32% reduction in the number of patients who developed a stroke, 21% who developed congestive heart failure, and 36% reduction who developed diabetes.
