PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antiseptic microbicide which can exclude or reduce the doses of conventional antiseptic microbicides, e.g. paraben, benzoic acid and the like, and possesses excellent antimicrobial potency by including a 1,2- alkanediol with a specific carbon number.SOLUTION: This antiseptic microbicide contains a 1,2-alkanediol (e.g. 1,2- pentanediol of formula II, 1,2-hexanediol of formula III or 1,2-octanediol of formula IV) of formula I [(n) is 1-7]. The compound of formula I can be blended with a composition for applying to the human body in a proportion of 0.05-20 wt.%. When 1,2-pentanediol is particularly used, it is favorable to be blended in a proportion of 1-10 wt.%.
