The invention relates to a composition for coating flower heads, especially roses, post-harvest to inhibit or prevent infection of the flowers during transport and storage. The invention further relates to a method of inhibiting or preventing infection of cut flowers by applying the composition to the flower heads. The composition comprises a polymer produced from the monomers vinyl acetate and ethylene, and optionally a vinyl ester of a highly branched carboxylic acid, glycerol and water, the composition being in the form of a dispersion. The composition may act as a carrier for slow release of bioactive agents, such as crop protection agents, in particular fungicides.
