Methods for obtaining purified geometric isomers of unsaturated macrocycles are disclosed herein. The method comprises contacting an ion exchange medium containing silver ions with a mixture containing at least one geometric isomer of an unsaturated macrocycle, thereby forming a purified geometric isomer of the macrocycle. It is carried out by obtaining at least one fraction containing it. A system configured to perform the method is also disclosed.
