Methods and apparatus are provided for a reservoir or syringe, a connection interface between an infusion set tube and an infusion pump. The reservoir, base and cap are connected to form an integrated unit that can be inserted and secured into the infusion pump housing. The cap and infusion pump device are each provided with at least one sensor or at least one detectable feature that interacts with at least one corresponding detectable feature or sensor of the other of the cap and infusion pump device. When operatively positioned and the cap is aligned or coupled with the infusion pump housing, one or more of the presence, position, or other characteristic of the cap is detected.
