A web for forming a package comprising; first and second end regions, a first tear line 42 extending from an edge of the first region, and a second tear line 43 extending from the second region, configured such that the first and second tear lines can be brought into close alignment by folding the web. Where the web also comprises a third tear line 47 which extends from the first region from a location which is spaced apart from the first tear line, and where the third tear line converges with the first tear line. The tear lines are positioned such that when the web is folded, the third tear line permits easy concurrent tearing along the first and second tear lines, even if the first and second tear lines are not perfectly aligned. The packaging web may be used to form packages containing foodstuff, using on-line high speed processes. Preferably the web comprises a fourth tear line 48 and may comprise a layer of nylon and polyethylene terephthalate and a layer of polyethylene.
