The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating or treating heart failure including extracts of Saururi herba as an active ingredient, which has effects of contracting heart muscle while increasing pulse pressure by 8-220% and stroke volume by 25-220% with respect to the pulse pressure and the stroke volume when the extracts of Saururi herba are not treated. According to the present invention, the composition has effects of contracting heart muscle when treated with diltiazem or nifedifine, which is an inhibitor of L-type Ca^2+ channel.본 발명은 삼백초 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는, 심부전을 예방, 개선 또는 치료하는 조성물로써, 삼백초 추출물 미처리시 기준으로 맥압(pulse pressure)을 8~220%, 1회 심방 박출량(stroke volume)을 25~220% 상승시켜 심근을 수축시키는 효능을 보유하고 있다.본 발명에 따른 조성물은, L-타입 Ca2+ 채널 통로 저해제인 니페디핀(nifedifine) 또는 딜티아젬(diltiazem)과 병용처리시에도 심근을 수축시키는 효능을 보유하고 있다.
