The barrier (10) has two parallel posts (18) that are connected by a crosspiece, where each post is rotatably mounted about an axis (A18) borne by a respective support (24) to be fixed to an upper frame of a bed. The parallel posts are pivotable in a vertical plane between a service position, in which the barrier is unfolded, and a laid down position in which the barrier is retracted. The support includes a locking device (32) for locking the respective post in the service position.
